I went to work today for literally half an hour before returning home to sleep. I woke up at around 6:45PM or so because I was incapable of waking up. Last night (Thursday), after I had dinner, I decided to take one of the malaria pills I purchased here since I’ll be travelling to and from the villages for work. When I purchased the pills from the pharmacy I even went back to the apartment to Google it to make sure they were legitimate. Everything looked kosher and I decided to take one last night. WOW… BAD idea! Or at least bad reaction! I’m supposed to take the pills only once a week. I took one after dinner as prescribed by the pharmacist (and as noted on the internet). I woke up in the middle of the night shivering and freezing. I was also sweating profusely and had an incredibly high fever. I’m not really sure how long this lasted but I’m sure I freaked Dana out. – I’m telling you my experience of India is so far, aside from my job, not going so well.
Anyway, Dana left for work and I couldn’t really go back to sleep. I had the WORST stomach pain, nausea, and migraine this morning. I took literally like 2 hours to get ready because every part of my body ached. I went to work at 10AM and could only stay for half an hour then I had to leave. I came back and literally slept all day! I vaguely remember speaking with Dana as she came back from work around 2PM. I just spoke with Saman a couple hours ago and he had similar symptoms… he went to work and went to the doctor located on the premises and they told him they thought he had malaria… which of course freaked me the hell out! He said he got tested there and it was negative. I don’t think I have malaria, I think it’s just a reaction to the pills as the symptoms followed the ingestion. I also found out that other people are also sick… I’m trying to see the silver lining, I really am…
I think I will call my mother later and inquire about my brother and whether or not he had any side effects since he had to take malaria pills before going to Honduras.
